CONTENDRO I
Contendro I is one of the most popular Holstein
sires of the present day. He was awarded Premium
status at the 1999 Approvals and was the winner of
the Performance Test at Adelheidsdorf in 2000,
receiving the highest score in both showjumping and
dressage. In 2001 he was one of the highest placing
participants at the Holstein Riding Horse
Championships, and was nominated for the
Bundeschampionat for German riding horses. Foals by
Contendro I tend to be very dark in colour with
outstanding paces and strikingly beautiful faces.
Numerous foals have been awarded Premium status, and
many have been sold at the foal auctions in Verden
for well above average prices. In 2004, 11 of his
sons successfully completed their Licensing at
Verden, Neumünster, Münster-Handorf and Kreuth. The
State Studs at Celle , Neustadt Dosse and
Schwaiganger all stand stallions by Contendro I, as
do many privately owned stallion stations.
The Sire, Contender, won the 1987 Stallion
Performance test at Adelheidsdorf with the
impressive jumping score of 146.62. He was later
named Reserve Champion Main Premium Stallion of
Oldenburg based on the extremely high quality of his
first crop of foals. Contender stood at stud in
Oldenburg for 3 years, and thereafter stood in
Holstein. Contender is one of the most sought after
jumping sires in Germany, in Hannover, Oldenburg,
and Rheinland alone, produced 498 successful
registered performance horses, nearly 80 Licensed
sons, and 782 registered daughters, of whom almost
60 have been State Premium mares, including the mare
Riconda, who, in 1993, was awarded Champion of the
Elite Mare Show at Rastede.
From Contender's first crop of foals alone came the
international jumping horses Maria Callas (Ben
Schröder), Niko (Geoff Billington), and Copa D’oro
(Yves Houtackers), as well as the eventer Chicoletto
(Herbert Blöcker). Marco Kutscher is currently
riding no less than three licensed Contender sons in
international showjumping, these being Contreo,
Conterno Grande and Montender, who was a Bronze
Medallist at the Athens Olympic Games, German
Champion in 2003, and European Champion in 2005.
Checkmate competed at the European Championships
under Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, and the pair also
won on the Rider's Tour. Collin L, won the German
Showjumping Derby ridden by Toni Hassmann. And,
Controe (Contender x Aloube Z) has on two occasions
taken 2nd place in Major classes at CSI’s
at Amsterdam and Stockholm.
The 2004 World Champion Sire, Con Spirito R
(Contender x Caletto I) has competed successfully
under Theo Muff, and is now standing at the
Ruetimann Stud in Switzerland. Other successful
Contender sons include, as well as Contendro I,
Camiros (1994 Licensing Champion), Contango
(Performance Test Champion at Oldenburg, later
exported to the US), Cantos (Contender x Goodtimes),
Chellano Z (Contender x Cor De La Bryere), Koriander
(Contender x Moltke I), Canabis Z (Contender x
Silvester), Clinton (Contender x Maikoenig),
Continue, Concetto, Caius, Coleo, Calvador, Concerto
I and II, and CORDOBES I and II, who were purchased
by Warendorf, the State Stud of Westphalia.
Interestingly, Cordobes I was winner of the 1998
Stallion Performance Test with an overall score of
146.29, a mere 0.33 different from that of his sire!
In 2004, Contender was ranked 3rd in the World
Showjumping Sire Ratings.
The Dam,Bravo is by the Ramiro son Reichsgraf.
Bravo's mother Ofarim is by Rasputin by Ramiro with
Tin Rod xx and Ute by Ramzes.
Half brother Carentano Z is also out of Bravo. As a
5 yr old Carentano Z won the Bundeschampionat with
Toni Hassman. As a 6 yr old he was best young
stallion in Zwolle (Netherlands). As a 7 yr old he
was the World Champion at Zangersheide with Jos
Lansink. Caretano Z leads eighth year title as" Sire
of the World". Three of Caretano Z's foals had an
auction price of 50.000 euros each. |
